Have you ever found yourself dumpster diving in your mind, re-living experiences you don’t even like or want? Transformed Kingdom living means we practice seeing our life the way God does; He is not interested in re-visiting our losses, failures, regrets, pain. That means we shouldn’t either!

Affirmations
I can’t change the past but I can change the power I give my memories.
I would never look in the trash and expect to find anything good, so I will stop looking in the trash bin of my memories and thoughts.
I will embrace the new things God is doing in my life today instead of continuing to be sucked into the past.
Personally Applied Scripture Truths
I need to keep my heart away from worthless things
Ps. 119:36,37 Turn my heart toward Your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to Your word.
Forget the former things
Is. 43:18,19,25 Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, God is doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do I not perceive it? God is making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland….He blots out my transgressions, for His own sake, and remembers my sins no more.
I count all things rubbish compared to God
Phil. 3:7-9 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.
I forget the past and press toward the upward call of Christ
Phil. 3:13-15 But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. If I am mature I should take such a view of things.
Prayer
Father, it’s foolish to direct my mind to the trash of the past. Help me to use this silly image to remind myself to avoid such folly and direct my soul to think renewed thoughts that please You and reflect my new identity in You. Thank You, God, for being a God of fresh starts!
